Phil Ivey’s UK baccarat case to be heard by the UK Supreme Court. LA Poker Classic WPT Main Event enters day 4. Read these stories and more in the Tuesday Hit and Run.

Phil Ivey Supreme Court Appeal Granted

Phil Ivey will get the chance to appeal the decision on his edge sorting case all the way to the UK Supreme Court. The original incident took place in August 2012 when Ivey won £7.8 million playing baccarat at the Crockfords Club in London. Ivey lost a High Court claim against the owners of the Crockfords Club in October 2013 and in November 2016 the decision was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

“I am so pleased that the Supreme Court has granted me permission to fight for what I genuinely believe is the right thing to do in my circumstances, and for the entire gaming industry. I look forward to the Supreme Court reversing the decision against me,” said Ivey in a statement.

The case is not to be confused with Ivey’s other edge sorting case, which also took place in 2012 at the Borgata and used the same type of playing cards. In that case, in April of 2014 the Borgata Casino sued Ivey and in December 2016, Phil Ivey was ordered to return $10.1 million. That decision is also being appealed.
