World Poker Tour NJ Main Event Begins
The World Poker Tour has brought a big event to New Jersey in connection with PartyPoker this weekend.
The PokerNews live reporting team writes, “This event boasts a $300,000 guarantee in the prize pool and players start with 1 million in chips. Levels will be of 12 minutes throughout the duration of the tournament and late registration will be available until the end of Level 21. This tournament featured two Phased flights, which allowed players not only the chance to qualify for the tournament, but to carry over more than the 1 million starting stack. BorgataPoker.com Sponsored Pro Michael “Gags30” Gagliano (2,535,888), “spinach_kale” (1,742,341), “PokerKarma” (1,632,582), “jqbpk772” (1,517,662), “sansara52” (1,444,068), cenation (1,350,308), “nigock” (1,060,028) also survived the Phase flight to enter the day with more than a million.
The plan is to play down to a winner and the winner of this tournament will receive a WPT Championship Trophy and in addition to prize winnings, an $11,000 prize package which includes entry into the next WPT in-person live event, the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic, which will take place at Bellagio in Las Vegas ($10,400 buy-in), plus $600 in cash towards travel expenses.”
Now the tournament is just getting underway. We will bring you full details of the winner tomorrow. But at press time, it’s no surprise to see Michael “Gags30” Gagliano atop the leaderboard with over 2.5 million in chips already!
-PocketFives has another great article about the upcoming WSOP. The events are switching to online and Jeff Walsh says planning ahead is key, writing, “The lure of winning a WSOP bracelet, even online, is likely to bring out large fields of players who may not play regularly on the site. Some of which will travel in from out of state, looking to get set up for the very first time. While others may be firing up an old account, one they haven’t played on since last year. But with a little planning ahead, players can ensure that their main focus during the WSOP is on the tournaments and not on the details it takes to play.”
-Over at CardPlayer magazine, Lex Veldhuis gave a fantastic interview about what it was like to set the poker Twitch stream record. He also talks about his plans for poker to grow both on the live felt and in the streaming arena.
-Checking in with CardPlayerLifeStyle.com, Robbie has a great article for all you amateurs just hopping into the game (possibly from quarantine). Titled “How Can Beginners Develop Their Poker Strategy?” Robbie talks about several tools that can help you improve your game.
-Heading on over to PokerNews, where “WPT Legends Dunst and Lichtenberger Discuss Online Poker.” The two talk about how soft the games have been everywhere the last couple of months.
-And finally USPoker.com has a really cool article from Fairway Jay where he discusses playing poker in the recently re-opened Bellagio. “The plexiglass partitions provide better health and safety measures while meeting social and physical distancing guidelines.”

-And finally, Maria Konnikova is on press circuit right now for her new book “The Biggest Bluff.” And she was recently on CBS This Morning which says, “Writer Maria Konnikova turned to poker when her family faced a series of hardships, becoming a champion with an endorsement deal in just a year and a half.
