Veteran live and online poker professional Justin Bonomo has surpassed Daniel Negreanu as the world’s all-time leading live tournament winner.
$10 million first place prize awarded in WSOP Big One for One Drop charity event.
Longtime poker pro Justin Bonomo claimed victory in the $1 million USD buy-in “Big One for One Drop” WSOP bracelet tournament Wednesday morning Las Vegas time.
Bonomo outlasted an extremely competitive field of 27 poker high rollers in an event that awarded nearly $25 million in total cash prize payouts, with over $2 million going toward the One Drop Foundation charity — organized by Cirque du Soleil main stakeholder Guy Laliberté.
The 32-year old Virginia native who now calls Las Vegas his home bested fellow poker pros Fedor Holz and Dan Smith at a final table which also included fourth and fifth place finishers Rick Salomon and Byron Kaverman.
2018 WSOP BIG ONE FOR ONE DROP (FINAL RESULTS)
1st Place: Justin Bonomo – $10,000,000
2nd Place: Fedor Holz – $6,000,000
3rd Place: Dan Smith – $4,000,000
4th Place: Rick Salomon – $2,840,000
5th Place: Byron Kaverman – $2,000,000
The win also continues the 32-year old’s eye-popping high stakes poker tournament results streak over the past seven months.
If Bonomo wins this, he'll have earned $24,945,435 this year. That alone would be 9th all-time just behind Bryn Kenney and is $2.13M ahead of Hellmuth's career earnings.

Twitter Reacts to Justin Bonomo One Drop Victory
Does anybody know if the Twilight Zone episode with the gambler who can’t lose has a happy ending? Asking for a friend

Poker community social media feeds were filled with high roller hype from late Tuesday night onward as the 2018 WSOP Big One for One Drop capped off what has been an impressive showcase of live tournament poker that included 78 bracelet events.
This One Drop final is a perfect illustration of why we shouldn’t constantly call anyone playing on TV “one of the best players in the world”. These three actually are the best and that phrase’s meaning gets lost when we overuse it.

The action was broadcast live (with a short, Nevada-mandated delay) on ESPN2, which has hosted coordinated coverage of the entire 49th Annual World Series of Poker along with its main ESPN channel and PokerGO.

Las Vegas Shines in 2018 Poker Showcase
The lure of live, peer-to-peer competitive gaming could be a major driving factor behind a 9% rise in the WSOP Main Event entry pool this year — as 7,874 participants paid the $10,000 entry fee into poker’s most famous event.
With more high profile poker games such as the Poker Masters planned for upcoming broadcast, and WPT Season 17 televised final tables coming to the Esports Arena, Las Vegas is prominently positioned to maintain its status as the live poker capital of the world.
The city has clearly displayed its ability to make poker games a popular pastime for players of all skill levels and from all geographical regions.
This could result in Sin City becoming the new headquarters for an eventual ring-fenced live poker tournament marketplace that will dangle the value of Las Vegas gambling in front of hopefuls who wish to participate in high profile events with the chance at an unforgettable getaway experience.
WSOP 2018 Defines “Live Poker” in Modern Day Era
Through its vastly improved YoY offering, the 2018 World Series of Poker has made a case for playing a leadership role in defining live poker in the United States.
There is also information (recently made public) that further points to the brand potentially collaborating with a broad player/industry/fan base in what could lead to agile consideration and execution of possible improvements for the 2019 WSOP.*
* There is an additional angle to this story — based on information that has already been made public — that will be also be covered here this week.
Suggestions (& predictions) for 2019 @WSOP @WSOPTD
1) Stagger bathroom breaks
2) BB antes for all NLH tourn’s
3) Have more 8 handed events
4) Have more 30 min level tourn’s
5) Have a PLO Shootout
6) Lessen reg lines (more cashiers)
7) Set up PHOF area 😜

Suggestion @WSOP @WSOPTD – give the final table players a day off before commencing with final table play. Relatives & friends can fly in and players would greatly appreciate a day off. Been since ‘99 that someone over 40 won main event – may not ever happen again w/this format.
