The World Series of Poker in Las Vegas may be over — or more correctly on hiatus — but the WSOP Europe is right around the corner.
The European version of the WSOP is in its fourth year, and five bracelets will be handed out this year, up one from 2009. The tournament series starts on Sept. 14 and runs through Sept. 28. It will be held at the Casino at the Empire in London.
On the heels of a well-attended World Series of Poker at the Rio in Vegas — and the second-largest main event in history — expectations are up for the event in London. Last year’s main event of the WSOPE saw 334 entrants for a prize pool of £3,340,000. Barry Shulman took down the first prize of £801,603. With the WSOPE becoming more entrenched in the world of poker, the main event will look to attract a record number of players.
New this year is the £10K heads-up event. Interestingly it’s termed a “high-roller” event even though the buy-in is the same as the main event.
After the WSOP Europe concludes, the WSOP main event final table will resume about a month and half later. The November Nine will play down to a winner later in the fall.
