A pair of bracelets are won, and the Magician makes some noise in the $5K event. Catch up with the action at the World Series of Poker on Wednesday and early Thursday morning.
Event No. 13: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em
It was a big day for a poker pro who specializes in lowball cash games, as American Steven Gee got the score of a lifetime.
Gee, whose previous best live cash was $4,500 in 2005, won about 100 times that on Wednesday, taking home $472K and a bracelet. His first-ever WSOP cash had come earlier in the week, in Event No. 11.
Online player Jared “TheWacoKidd” Hamby finished in eighth.
Here were the final table payouts:
Steven Gee, $472,479
Matthew Vance, $292,232
David Baker, $206,813
Nicholas Heather, $149,702
Jeffrey Gross, $109,621
Daniel Thomas, $81,203
Kyung Han, $60,833
Jared Hamby, $46,077
Mats Gavatin, $35,290
Event No. 16: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em / Six Handed
It’s good to be Carter Phillips.
Just 21 years old, he’s already got a European Poker Tour title under his belt, and now he has a WSOP bracelet on his wrist. He started the final day of the event with the chip lead, and rode that to the victory and the $482K top prize.
It was a young final table, and one short on WSOP experience. Only Phillips and Diaz had cashed for more than four figures in their WSOP careers, and three players had never cashed.
Here were the payouts at the final table:
Carter Phillips, $482,774
Samuel Gerber, $298,726
Craig Bergeron, $189,661
Hugo Perez, $124,690
Russell Thomas, $84,256
David Diaz, $58,483
Event No. 17: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em
The $5K event started with lots of big names on day one, but most of them were on the rail by the end of day two.
There are 18 players left that will play for the title and the first prize of more than $800K.
The most recognizable name left is Antonio Esfandiari, who lost a big pot right before play ended for the day, or else he would be closer to being the chip leader.
Here are the top players in chips:
Jason DeWitt, 1,873,000
Jeff Williams, 1,323,000
Amit Makhija, 1,317,000
Paul Foltyn, 1,246,000
Samuel Trickett, 945,000
Antonio Esfandiari, 883,000
Among the days busts were Josh Arieh (26th), Phil Hellmuth (50th), David “Chino” Rheem (68th) and Annette Oberstad (72nd).
Event No. 18: $2,000 Limit Hold’em
In the limit tourney, 476 players registered, and the day played down to 109, creating a top prize of just over $200K.
The story of the day was Matt Matros, who is unofficially third in chips. He just came off a victory in another limit tourney, WSOP event No. 12.
Other notables still in are Maria Ho, Shannon Shorr, Dutch Boyd, Jennifer Tilly and Sorel Mizzi.
Phil Ivey registered for the event, but never showed up and was blinded out.
Event No. 19: $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball World Championship (No-Limit)
One $10K event ends, and another one starts. There are 101 players engaging in lowball fun, and 74 remain after day one.
Most of the big name pros, including 15 multiple bracelet winners, turned out for this one, an event that increases their odds to take a title.
David “WhooooKidd” Baker is unofficially third in chips. Notables with above-average stacks include Brandon Cantu, David Williams, Steve Zolotow, Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan, Andy Bloch, Erik Seidel, John Juanda and Mike Matusow, to name a few.
Play continues today at 3 p.m.
