Dwan just misses his first bracelet, and two Parttimepoker.com members reach final tables. Catch up with the action from Sunday and early Monday at the World Series of Poker.
Event No. 11: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em
Tom “durrrr” Dwan looked like he was set up well to win his first bracelet. Instead, he had to settle for second place.
Dwan lost heads-up in the tournament to Simon Watt, who had never cashed in a WSOP event and who had won an Asia Pacific Poker Tour stop last year.
Dwan lost out on millions in prop bets, as he had booked a ton of side action on his ability to win a bracelet before the WSOP started. He still has several dozen events in which to accomplish the feat this year, though.
Parttimepoker.com member David “GhettoFabolous” Randall finished third in the event.
Here are the final table payouts:
Simon Watt, $614,248
Tom Dwan, $381,885
David Randall, $270,299
Austin McCormick, $194,939
Jason Young, $142,346
Michael Smith, $105,185
Marvin Rettenmaier, $78,681
Kyle Winter, $59,547
Eric Ladny, $45,603
Event No. 12: $1,500 Limit Hold’em
After three days of limit poker, Matt Matros took down the $189K top prize and his first bracelet. He first made a name for himself way back in 2004, when he finished in third in the World Poker Tour Championship for more than $700K, but this was his biggest score since.
Parttimepoker.com member Adrian “chardrian” Dresel-Velasquez finished in fifth place. Here were the final table payouts:
Matthew Matros, $189,870
Ahmad Abghari, $117,272
Terrence Chan, $83,185
Georgios Kapalas, $59,838
Adrian Dresel-Velasquez, $43,647
Jason Potter, $32,281
Jameson Painter, $24,198
Roberto Truijers, $18,385
Mark Burford, $14,149
Painter was at his second final table of this WSOP, but didn’t improve on his earlier fifth-place finish.
Event No. 13: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em
The second day one of the second $1K event was a pretty big disappointment, as just 1,050 players registered. Day 1a featured 1,992 players, so the total field was pushed just past 3,000. Still, the winner of this event will take home more than $472K.
Phil Gordon is the biggest name still in this field. Here are the top five in chips:
Andrew Black, 90,275
Pedro Reis, 78,550
Marcello Delgrosso, 68,300
Jack Schanbacher, 64,700
David Baker, 60,950
Event No. 14: $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit)
There’s just seven players remaining to return for more lowball fun later today.
Team PokerStars pro Alexander Kravchenko, who has nearly $3 million in live cashes and one WSOP bracelet already, is the biggest name left. Also in the mix is Nick Binger, who is no stranger to WSOP final tables and has $1.5 million in live cashes, and Mike Wattel, who has similar lifetime earnings and a bracelet.
Here are the chip counts:
Nicholas Binger, 309,500
Derric Haynie, 189,000
Yan Chen, 182,500
Mike Wattel, 146,000
Alexander Kravchenko, 144,500
James Bord, 83,500
Todd Bui, 68,500
Event No. 15: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better World Championship
In the second $10K event of this WSOP, 170 players entered, and 112 remain after day one.
Phil Ivey is the unofficial chip leader in a field full of big names. Others with above average chip stacks include Jennifer Harman, Barry Greenstein, Eli Elezra, Gus Hansen and Mike Matusow, among others.
