The HUPC is an acronym for the National Heads Up Poker Championship, an event sponsored and televised by NBC (you’ll sometimes see it referred to as the NBC HUPC). The HUPC is a freezeout-format no limit holdem tournament that features a series of heads up matches that pare an initial field of 64 players down to a final two. The champion is determined by a best of three match.
The HUPC is played a Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, generally in late winter / early spring, and is typically broadcast on NBC a month or two later.
The buy in for the HUPC is 20k. The HUPC is not an open event; you must receive a bid in order to register for the tournament. Open bids are generally made available through satellites at Full Tilt Poker, PokerStars, and Caesar’s Palace Las Vegas.
