Video Poker

Video Poker is an easy and fun game to play online. It made its debut in the 1970’s and has been growing steadily since that time. Lots of online poker rooms offer video poker besides the regular Texas Holdem Poker games, slot machine, and free online bingo games.

Here’s how it works

A player deposits from one to five coins and is dealt five cards. He has the choice of keeping the cards or replacing the cards with new ones. After the second cards are dealt, the player is paid out according to the hand’s rank. The hand ranking is the same as in a regular hand of Texas Holdem Poker, with a Royal Flush being the strongest hand, down to the lowest single pair hand.
Game variety

Video poker games offer a number of variants. You can play with wild cards, multiple decks, various bonuses, and different payoff tables. Listed below are a few of the different video games to choose from:

Basic Jacks or Better game – For this basic video poker game, hold all paying hands unless you could possibly complete a royal or straight flush. If you’re dealt no matching cards at all, draw five new cards. Payout is for any hand that at least has one pair (Jacks or higher). The strategy in this game is to hold a single card of Jack or higher.

Deuces Wild – In this exciting variant, two’s are wild. They can be used for any card value and any suit. Since it increases your chances of getting a higher ranked hand, only three-of-a-kind or higher is paid out. The basic strategy in this game is similar to a regular video game, except you keep all two’s and a hand that could possibly make a straight or flush.

Jokers Wild – This game uses a 53 card deck with joker as wild. The joker can be used for any card value or suit. The lowest paid out hand is two pairs. The strategy is similar to a regular video game but you should focus and getting two pairs.

Multi-Hand Video – This variant is played just like the basic Jacks or better game except you play with three to ten hands simultaneously. It increases your chance of winning as one hand is sure to be a winner. Not all online poker and casino rooms offer this game option, but when you do find the game, it’s a great alternative to the standard game. Strategy is the same as in a regular video game.

Progressive Video Poker – In this game, a progressive jackpot is shared between at least 10 machines in a land based casino, and up to an entire network in online video poker play. The jackpot consists of a percentage of each wager made, and is won on a Royal Flush. Some games might have a different hand that pays out the jackpot. When you play a progressive video poker game, the first player who gets the winning hand wins the pot. Strategies depend upon the particular game played, such as an 8/5 Jacks or Better or a 6/5 Jacks or Better game.
