The rise and fall of Isildur1 may feature a rise from the ashes, after some talk that poker pro Tony G may consider staking Isildur1.
Tony G recently blogged about the as-of-yet-unknown Swedish player (rumored to be Viktor Blom). He said he would consider backing the internet phenom who made waves in the second half of 2009 with his high-stakes play at Full Tilt Poker.
Some of Tony G’s blogging here:
I have had a few conversations over the phone with him and I really love the kid. He is like me 15 years ago. I just wish I had as much talent as he does. He can play the world’s best on eight tables and he only learned PLO about eight months ago. Anyway, it is likely I will stake him in some big cash games in the future, this is what I do after all. I like to give people a chance in life to do well. … I want to close the chapter with Isildur1, I know who he is, no doubt. I also have to say that earlier I was guessing and I will never reveal who he is from here on out. I think it’s more exciting for everyone, leaving the mystery as a mystery.
The news is probably welcomed by Isildur1, who stormed on to the scene last year, but he’s fallen on tough times of late. According to highstakesdb.com, he lost more than $2.2 million in 2009. That came after an amazing run where he ran his bankroll to more than $5 million at one point by beating some of the best cash-game players on the planet, including Tom “durrrr” Dwan.
The biggest recent news regarding Isildur1 had been Brian Hastings’ massive session with Isildur1, in which he took $4.2 million from the Swede. Not long after that massive swing, news came out about FTP red pro Brian Townsend being suspended for a month for providing his hand histories to Hastings. Tony G also remarks on that — it had been rumored that Isildur1 might sue Full Tilt, but that appears not to be the case:
I can see how people attacked Full Tilt Poker on 2+2 – calling for lawsuits, etc., but this is not what Isildur1 really wants. He wants to enjoy his life and move on. This is what he needs to do. He is a brilliant player and with a little bit of hard work, he will build back up to a multimillion roll.
If Tony G is backing Isildur1, we’re sure to know about it when he sits down at the tables with FTP’s best. We’ll have more news on this as events warrant.
