Here’s what to watch for across the pokerverse for the week starting July 26th, 2010.
The World Series of Poker is on hiatus until November, when the final table of the main event resumes. But now you can watch this year’s WSOP on television, starting on Tuesday. Coverage this year will be on Tuesdays on ESPN, and the first televised event will be the $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship. Coverage begins at 8 p.m. The first hour will show the action before the final table, when the play is a mixed-game format. The second hour is the final table at 9 p.m., when play switches to no-limit hold’em only. The coverage begins a run up to the live final table in November.
On Tuesday morning, the House Committee on Financial Services will mark up H.R. 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act, a bill introduced by the committee chairman, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA). The bill would legalize and regulate online poker in the United States. A “mark up” is where a Congressional committee considers and makes changes to a bill before it is voted on by the committee and eventually sent on to the full House of Representatives, should it pass that committee vote. The mark up of the bill is an important step if the bill is to become a law in the U.S.
CardRunners is the official training site of PTP – you can get free CardRunners with play at Full Tilt. Coming up this week from the online training giant: Marshall28 covers donk betting, Doctor Razz breaks down the fundamentals of (you guessed it) Razz play, D_zoo walks through play at NLHE in the midstakes and the legend himself – Bryce – talks limit holdem as only he can.
You’ll also get videos from Rask88, jacksup and 2+2 author Colin Moshman. Get started at CardRunners today.
The biggest tournament series going on this week is the Legends of Poker at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles. It starts with a $335 buy-in $500K guaranteed tournament on Wednesday, which will last for five days. The tournament series runs through the end of August.
PokerStars is bringing back its “All Star Week” starting on Monday, in which PS pros play some of the site’s top non-pros in a series of heads-up matches. There will be five matches a day for a total of 35 matches. Last time around, Team PokerStars pro won 18-17, in 2009. Matches will be played at noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern time on all seven days. Many poker variants will be featured in the matches, beyond just no-limit hold’em.
