Here’s what to watch for across the pokerverse for the week starting August 16th, 2010.
Day 1C and 1D of the World Series of Poker main event are on tap for Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on ESPN. Among the players in action are defending champion Joe Cada, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey and Daniel Negreanu. The coverage is all a part of a build up to the November Nine, as the final table will be played this fall at the conclusion of ESPN’s coverage. Here’s a preview of what you will see:
The online poker world — or at least players at the Cake Poker network — are still waiting to hear the results of an audit of hands in the wake of what appears to be a severe security breach at the network’s rooms. The backstory? Pokertableratings.com recently discovered a problem with Cake’s encryption, leaving the site and its players open to problems, including but not limited to a hacker being able to see another player’s hole cards. The encryption problem was fixed, but it eventually came out that it was possible that the site could have been compromised by superusers over the course of about 18 months. No one actually knows if there were superusers, yet. That’s what the audit will eventually, tell us we hope. If you want to read more about the problems at Cake, and follow developments this week, head over to 2+2.
A jam-packed week at our favorite training site. The first half of the week features foox on low-stakes NL, JimmyLegs continuing his Brain Fail series, a special surprise on Tuesday, JBaller88 tackling 200NL and TheBryce working his way through the bankrolls of 15/30 players.
The second half of the week brings you another PLO video from Tom chambers, Jackal crushing 8-game, High Stakes Friday with PoorUser and a weekend pairing of Meatbuoy on MTTs and 2+2 author Colin Moshman on SNGs.

It’s a busy week in live poker this week, with several events getting under way. The biggest might be the start of the revamped World Series of Poker Circuit, with gets started Thursday at Horseshoe Council Bluffs Casino in Iowa with some small buy-in events where WSOP Circuit rings are up for grabs. Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut hosts a Mega Stack Challenge this week, with a $1,650 event on Saturday that will guarantee a prize pool of $250K. Also on the Northeast, the Empire State Hold’em Championships wrap up at Turning Stone in New York. And the Indiana State Poker Championships start this week as well, with the first event at Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg on Friday. Across the pond, PokerStars’ United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour heads to Edinburgh, Scotland, where there will be a 550-pound buy-in tourney on Thursday.
Want to play in the World Championship of Online Poker this September, but don’t have the bankroll to do it? PokerStars is helping players get into these big events by bringing back its “extreme satellites” promotion. Starting on Saturday, hundreds of WCOOP seats will be given away over the course of a series of big satellites to the tournament series. You could win a seat for as little as $5.50. There will be three satellites every day, through August 29. Just go to the “Events” tab in the PokerStars lobby, and select WCOOP. Check out PokerStars’ website for more details.
