The Hit and Run: High-Stakes Smack Talk; JRB Not Busto; PokerStars’ New Games

Dustin Gouker : April 3rd, 2015

Sahamies and Cates exchange words online. Jean-Robert Bellande won money? And PokerStars has a strange new series of games. It’s all in our daily wrap-up of the world of poker, the Hit and Run.

Sahamies vs. jungleman

The chat at the high-stakes online tables doesn’t involve as much smack talk as it once did. But Ilari “Ilari FIN” Sahamies and Dan “w00ki3z.” Cates (aka jungleman12) got into in the chat box, according to’s Online Railbird Report:

Ilari Fin: wookiez semi gay

w00ki3z.: illari semi idiot
Ilari Fin: wookiez
Ilari Fin: u r f gay
Ilari Fin: that’s it
w00ki3z.: lol
w00ki3z.: clearly
Ilari Fin: ike is cool

Sahamies went on to say that he was drunk, but continued to berate Cates. More here, including what happened as far as people actually winning and losing money playing poker.

PokerStars’ new games?

We’re not sure if this is cool, or weird. PokerStars rolled out a series of interactive games, meant to determine what type of poker player you are. There are three different games (and apparently more to come) where you are put into what can best be described as cinematic experiences, and you make choices. It’s well-produced and looks cool. But is it going to get anyone to play online poker? We’re not sure about that one. More on the games here, trailer below.

RAWA petition

The latest attempt to raise opposition to the Restoration of America’s Wire Act — the bill that would ban online poker — is a petition. The document, started by the Poker Players Alliance, seeks 100,000 signers over the next month. There are just 2,000 so far, after the initial push. There have to be millions of people who would like to eventually play online poker in the United States. So, take a minute and sign it.

On the same topic, here’s a great op-ed that appeared in the Baltimore Sun.

Not busto?

What the hell is going on here? Jean-Robert Bellande has money? He won six figures online? This screws with my entire worldview:

Quick hitters

–Will Sen. Harry Reid try to help pass legislation to ban online gaming before he retires?
–This daily fantasy sports thing is getting serious, as ESPN invests in DraftKings to the tune of $250 million.
An interview with Victor Saumont, who won “Media Content of the Year” at the European Poker Awards for his the documentary Nosebleed.
–The latest in’s series on casino poker for beginners.
–Who is the greatest fictional poker player of all time?
–Phil Hellmuth will be doing Poker Night in America.
