Strategies For Getting the Most Out of Online Poker Deposit Bonuses

There probably isn’t an online card room without some kind of bonus offer for your first deposit. Before rushing in to a new site to grab the bonus however, consider a few things:

1) Read the terms and conditions. Carefully. If there aren’t terms and conditions, laugh and move on. If the bonus offer is SO darn attractive or you don’t like laughing, email support and ask them for a copy. They may be long and boring and convoluted. Read them anyhow.

2) Have a strong understanding from the T&C about how difficult the bonus will be to acquire. All sites require you to play ‘x’ amounts of hands [or more accurately, to contribute the bonus amount to the rake] to gain access to your bonus, some significantly more than others. Some sites will only release your total bonus when you hit that number, others will release it incrementally. While $100 free might sound nice, if you need to play a gazillion hands to get it at a terrible site with no action, you’d be better off playing your regular game.

3) Shop around. Don’t bite at the first offer you see. Sites are constantly one-upping each other with promotions. Research can mean the difference between a $25 bonus and a $200 one.

4) Check the site out. You should be able to download and view games at almost any site without signing up for an account. No reason to deposit and then find out that a client crashes your computer every two hours.

5) Ask around. People you play with online are a great, generally unbiased resource for information. Find people who have already gotten the bonus and hear about their experience before you commit. How were the games? How long did it take them to release their bonus? Did they have any problems with withdrawals? Include any other concerns you may have.

So generally speaking, take your good damn time. There’s no hurry, card rooms aren’t going to stop offering bonuses any time soon.
