Review of Wicked Chops Poker

Poker blogs and news sites are certainly not in short supply by any definition of the term, which makes it increasingly difficult for any one site to develop a unique voice and to have that voice cut through the mass of content competing for poker player’s online attention. A new site looking for a quick way to accomplish both could do far worse than to copy the model developed by the guys at Wicked Chops - concise stories, regular updates, and healthy amounts of seriously hot women.
Overview
Wicked Chops Poker is basically a poker news blog with a primary focus on the more rumoury side of poker, tournament updates and pictures of hot women. The site updates on a regular basis and prides itself on a tone that’s smart and sharp without being obnoxious.
Look
Standard blog layout here, and it works. The spartan layout and basic color scheme puts the attention on the content, which is where it belongs. There are ads, but they’re pretty minimal in ratio to the content.
Content
I’m a fan of the writing style. It’s pretty sarcastic and irreverent without coming off as petty or overly pleased with itself, which is a tough balance to strike. The updates are pretty frequent and fairly comprehensive - if something large is breaking in online or offline poker, you’re likely to find it covered / mentioned here in short order. The supply of pictures and video of attractive women in various states of undress is similarly reliable.
Unique pros / cons
The site is insanely concise without sacrificing personality.
The navigation elements are a bit buried on the main page, which isn’t the biggest issue with a site like this, where most of what you’ll want to read will be upfront anyhow. The site’s general attitude toward women is fairly un-PC (albeit generally in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way), so prepare to be angered if you’re angered by that sort of thing. There’s a decent amount of NSFW content on the site, but it’s well-labeled as such.
Bottom line
I read this site pretty much every day, and if you’re into the culture of poker on any level, you’ll want to as well. If I was only going to read one poker blog a day, I’d probably make it this one.
