Review of Tight Poker.com

One of the less-discussed impacts of the UIGEA is how the legislation changed the face of online poker media. In the wake of the legislation, there was a wave of mergers and buyouts that made some headlines, but another, subtler, change was the decreased development of small to mid-sized poker content sites. Tight Poker is a good example of a quality site that was very active pre-UIGEA and has now transitioned into a site that relies a bit more on its extensive archive than new content.

Overview
Tight Poker bills itself as the Party Poker Strategy Guide, and a good amount of its content is ostensibly Party Poker-specific. The site offers the traditional mix of room reviews, strategy articles, bonus information and news items.

Look
A fairly clean design. The site is good about giving you multiple access points to the most useful content, which is useful, especially on a site with a decent-sized archive. The ads on the site are fairly minimal and generally unobtrusive.

Content
There’s a nice array of useful strategy content here. The only thing to be aware of is that a decent amount of the content was written a year or more ago, so the strategic approaches are a little dated in spots and occasionally rely on assumptions about typical opponents that may not necessarily still be valid. That said, the content is generally well thought out and articulated, and you’ll find some especially helpful articles if you’re a newer player.

The news items are regularly updated but tend to be a bit more promotional in nature. The room reviews appear to not have been updated for several months.

Unique pros / cons
The quality and uniqueness of the content is the site’s strength; the lack of new content seems to be the largest drawback. However, the archives are big enough that you’ll be able to spend plenty of time at the site without noticing.

Bottom line
The strategy articles are definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re still developing your fundamentals.
