Overview
As the name suggests, pokertips.org focuses mostly on poker strategy. There is information available in several languages, a hand simulator, and a forum.
Look
The layout is simple, straightforward, and friendly. The site is easy to use and there are no pesky ads.
Content Quality / Quality
I did find the site helpful when I was learning to play, and there are articles for beginners to advanced players. The advice is generally broad rather than deep in scope, but there’s a lot of it. In addition to the strategy section, there are the rules of the game, including rules for other poker variants, not just hold’em.
Strangely enough, the site used to review real money poker rooms, but now they cover only play money poker rooms. For example, the partypoker.com review was replaced by a partypoker.net review. I’m guessing the recent legislation in the U.S. is behind this, although I don’t see why they would have to change their reviews accordingly (although I could see why they’d remove any affiliate links). Some of the information is still applicable to the real money counterparts of the poker rooms, but information regarding depositing funds and bonuses is obviously omitted.
There is a hand simulator that supports not only hold’em, but Omaha (high and 8-or-better), 7-stud (high, 8-or-better, and high/low no qualifier), razz, 2-7 lowball, and even hold’em 8-or-better, which I’d never heard of. I can’t figure out how the lowball calculator is supposed to work, though. There’s also a pot odds calculator, but it’s only for hold’em (although it’s probably close enough for Omaha games as well).
Some information is available in other languages, so if you natively speak German, Spanish, French, Italian, or Swedish, this is a good site for you. There’s also Japanese and Korean, but not so much content in these languages at the moment. Other languages are being worked on as well.
Finally, their forums are sizeable and popular, with many threads on many subjects. There are sections for German and French speakers as well.
Unique Pros / Cons
I like their particular format for the poker tactics and strategies. It’s too bad there are no reviews for real money poker sites, though. And, of course, the multilingualism is nice.
Bottom Line
A good place to learn or brush up on poker strategy, with a good forum to keep you coming back.
