Raymer Calls for Poker Player Support of New PPA Effort

Greg Raymer’s mounting a small campaign to help highlight the broad national support for licensing and regulating online poker, and you can participate with just a couple of minutes and a few clicks of the mouse.

Raymer’s initiative involves the new GOP-backed website America Speaking Out, which purports to act as a forum to “increase the dialogue between Americans and their Congress.” Given the GOP’s fierce opposition to online gambling in the past, Raymer saw an interesting avenue for promoting the cause of licensed online poker in the site, and submitted a piece making his case.

The site works Digg-style, meaning that issues which receive the most votes rise to the top of the page. That’s where you come in – Raymer and the PPA are asking that everyone in the pro-poker crowd take just a few minutes to make an account at America Speaking out and vote up his comment. If you have a Facebook account, you don’t need to make a ASO account, you can simply log in with your Facebook credentials.

“I believe”, said Raymer, that “we shouldn’t pass up this unique opportunity to share our message of personal freedom and liberty with these members of Congress.”

Here are the instructions for voting up Raymer’s piece:

• 1. Go to the PPA shortcut: http://go.theppa.org/register1 to create an account (requires an email address). Note: to login using Facebook, go to step 3.
• 2. After submitting your information, a confirmation email will be sent to the registered email address. In the email, click on the account confirmation link.
• 3. Go to the PPA shortcut: http://go.theppa.org/fossilman and click the “thumbs up” icon. You can also search on the site for the keyword “fossilman”. Share your own thoughts in the comments section by clicking “Post Response” and a box will appear

Online poker continues to be a live issue in Congress, with observers predicting that Barney Frank’s bill promoting regulation of the industry will take the next step toward a vote sometime this summer. Activity continues on the state level as well, with a handful of states floating various intra-state online poker proposals, including bills in various stats of progress in California and Florida.
