Tom Dwan and his various challenges, WSOP updates and Florida live poker news – all that and more in today’s edition of our quick spin around the pokerverse in the PTP Hit and Run.
Last night’s episode of the WSOP on ESPN provided excellent entertainment and a surprising amount of fodder for discussion. Two topics likely to light up message boards throughout the day: One, did you see Ivey muck the winning hand? Is he that good that he feels the need to play with a slight handicap? And did he realize later what he had done? Two, should Lucky Chewey really have just flatted the river with trip nines versus Moon? Read Pauly’s solid WSOP recap here and check out Poker Prof’s excellent WSOP photos here.
Speaking of the WSOP, Phil Ivey is gracing the cover of the most recent ESPN The Magazine. The article puts the number of side bets he has on the WSOP at $4 million and follows Ivey through a week of worldwide gambling that nets him another cool million.
One place where Ivey doesn’t play (poker, anyway): Florida, a state still stuck with tiny buy in maximums. Nick Sortal suggests in a SunSentinel.com piece that Florida Governor Charlie Crist is unlikely to approve any change to the status quo in the foreseeable future.
Also unlikely to be attracted by those artificially deflated stakes: Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan. Maybe he’ll start a Florida durrrr challenge soon where he wins a million off of opponents one hundred dollar buy in at a time. Until then, Dwan will stay busy with the online durrrr challenge, which saw some action last night, and the live durrrr challenge which, according to the interview embedded below, is still on but a bit up in the air when it comes to location, time and opponents.
Sounds pretty firm to us. Interview:
