Phil Ivey is everywhere. The UFC builds its empire. And online poker players play in their underwear? It’s the poker potpourri of the day in the PTPN Hit and Run.
ESPN is really revving up the Phil Ivey hype machine heading into the final table of the World Series of Poker in November. He’s already been the focus of a feature for the television show E:60, and now he’s going to appear on the cover of ESPN the Magazine. We hear he’s going to host SportsCenter next (just kidding). Check out the mag Nov. 2.
Online players are up in arms taking notice of some comments made by Marc Goodwin made on “Late Night Poker.” He said online players “gamble in their underpants” among other things. Here’s the 2+2 discussion.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship is trying to enter the poker realm with a legion of young men already locked into their brand. They’ve started a subscription-based poker room where they say they’ll give out $100,000 in cash and prizes. The model is not like a normal poker room like Full Tilt or PokerStars, but is more like the Club WPT model. One of the big draws will likely be the fact that you can have your favorite UFC fighter as an avatar.
The WSOP commissioner was thinking about becoming the commissioner of the women’s professional golf tour? Apparently it was under consideration by Jeffrey Pollack, but he’s withdrawn his name from consideration. Poker, women’s golf, pretty much the same thing.
Bluff Magazine came out with its latest online poker rankings. Right now “daisyxoxo” holds a big lead in the player of the year race.
There’s a lot of big names near the top of the chip counts after the first day at the World Poker Tour’s Festa al Lago at the Bellagio. Mike Matusow is your chip leader, and Phil Laak, Dutch Boyd, and David “Chino” Rheem are also holding lots of chips early on.
Can’t play at the WPT? Just play online. And make sure you get rakeback at Cake, Full Tilt, or UltimateBet.

Free and no deposit bankrolls (also called free poker money) are essentially promotional deals we've arranged with rooms where they give you a small amount of money (usually $10-$150) to try out their room. These offers are a great way to get your feet wet at a room without going through the hassle of depositing, and provide players nervous about depositing at an online gambling site with a risk-free way to play poker, bingo, and other games online.
