Gambling growth overseas, watch the Kentucky court battle live and WSOP recaps in our October 21st, 2009 wrap up of happenings in the pokerverse.
If it’s Wednesday, that means it’s time for another excellent recap of the WSOP broadcast on ESPN over at Tao of Poker. Dr. Pauly does his usual great job of distilling the episodes and adding a bit of his own flavor in the process.
While you’ll be seeing poker on ESPN for at least a few more weeks, you probably won’t be seeing it on this season of Celebrity Apprentice. That’s according to PokerNewsDaily, who are reporting that the finalized cast list for this season does not include a poker player to fill Annie Duke’s shoes.
From the networks to the courtrooms: Kentucky’s final appeal in its attempt to seize 141 gambling-related domain names goes before the State Supreme Court tomorrow. If you’re interested, you can watch live coverage of the hearing and oral arguments from both sides in the case – link here.
From the courtrooms to the congress: EGR is reporting that a new attempt at regulating intrastate poker in California will be presented to the State Legislature next session. The new bill, spearheaded by Poker Voters of America, looks to go right where an earlier effort by CA Indian tribes went wrong this year. PVA president Melanie Brenner told EGR that: “Aspects of the Morongo model were not really thought through, such as how much money it would bring to the state as well as stakeholders, how that money would be distributed, and how and by whom the system would be managed. The PVA framework has been presented to show there are viable alternatives to the Morongo proposal.”
Finally, tournament news: Bodog has releasedthe schedule for Bodog Open IV/a>, and tournament players can look forward to the usual Bodog tournament goodies like softer fields and added money. On the live poker front, the main event of the Festa al Lago Classic is getting underway – full coverage over at CardPlayer here.
