UIGEA delay fallout, and isildur1 is owning again. Check out today’s PTPN Hit and Run.

The Poker Players Alliance is obviously pretty happy with the decision to delay the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The rules for the UIGEA were supposed to go into effect on Dec. 1; now the deadline in June 1 of next year. “This is a great victory for poker, but an even greater victory for advocates of good and fair public policy,” PPA chairman and former Senator Alfonse D’Amato said in a statement. “These additional months are critical to provide legislators time to clarify UIGEA and pass legislation to license and regulate poker early next year.”

Rep. Barney Frank, who is attempting to push legislation through Congress that would legalize and regulate online poker, is optimistic about his bill’s chances after the UIGEA delay. Hearings on the legislation are slated to take place on Dec. 3. But this story at the Las Vegas Sun says regulation of the industry in the U.S. is still a longshot. One pretty pessimistic passage from the article: “Jan Jones, senior vice president of communications and government relations at Harrah’s Entertainment, was even more blunt: She said Frank’s bill has no chance of passage next year or maybe ever.” Here’s hoping she’s wrong.

Washington state is one state where online poker is theortically illegal, by law — although players have never been targeted under legislation passed in 2006. The new news? The same state senator who spearheaded the effort in ‘06 is now trying to push keno in the state as a way to make up a budget shortfall. Story here. So, if you’re keeping track: poker, a game of skill, is bad. Keno, a game stacked against the people who play, is ok. Good stuff, Washington.

Your (almost daily) update on high-stakes phenom isildur1 here. After his bankroll was slashed to about a million after some big losses, he is back over $3 million in total profit. Every time it looks like he could go busto, he comes back with a vengeance.

In some post-Thanksgiving thankfulness, some poker players weighed in with what they are thankful for at pokernewsdaily.com. The quickly-becoming-ubiquitous Joe Sebok is thankful for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
