The new year gets rolling with the PCA, updates for Miller’s book and sobering news regarding the poker economy. Those stories and more in today’s roundup of all things mentionable in the pokerverse – the PTP HNR for 1/4/10.
Plenty of people are happy to see 2009 in the rear-view, but perhaps none more than those who make their living off of the live tournament circuit. Cardplayer recently reviewed the turnout numbers for live tournies in 2009 and the numbers – especially for high buy in events – don’t look good.
One live tournament that doesn’t seem to have that problem is the PokerStars PCA. Maybe it’s the tropical location, an appealing draw for many in January. Maybe it’s the ability to buy in directly from your Stars account. Whatever it is, the PCA is running and running strong. Keep up with live webcasts from the tournament here; schedule below:

From tournaments to cash: Ed Miller’s announced a sale on the updated version of his Small Stakes NLHE e-book. Buy before January 15th and get 35% off of a generally well-received text focused on lower stakes NLHE. Details here.
Brad Booth’s got an interesting op-ed in Bluff where he talks about the lack of sustainability built into the nosebleed games online.
Finally, here’s a video that’s been floating around covering the largest pot of online poker ever played:
