If you live in the United States, but under a rock, you may not have heard about the good news for online poker in the U.S. A House committee passed the pill that would legalize and regulate online poker — story here. The next step would be a vote in the full House of Representatives, and it’s unclear when that may happen. Here’s a lookahead at the future of the bill in Congress and beyond.
In other big news for online poker, a couple of large companies, bwin and Party Gaming, are set to merge in 2011. The news is bigger for online gambling as a whole than online poker in particular. And Party has already been waiting for the day that the U.S. market becomes entirely open again. They withdrew in 2006 — story here about Party Gaming’s positioning to get back in.

The World Series of Poker is trying to capitalize on the popularity of its brand with a Facebook application where you can play free online poker. Story here about the launch, and here’s the Facebook page.
Speaking of the WSOP, the first episode of the summer aired on Tuesday. It showed the action from the $50K Players Championship. Bruce Buffer, the UFC announcer, can actually play some poker, apparently. After getting a poker room named after him at the Luxor in Las Vegas, he actually shipped a tournament this summer. He won $75K for taking down the Grand Slam of Poker at Hustler Casino in L.A. And while one poker room opened this summer in Vegas, another closed. The swanky Poker Lounge at Hard Rock is closing its doors, although some poker will still be played at the casino.
