Durrrr Challenge No. 2 is under way, Cereus is sold, and good news for U.S. online poker regulation. It’s all in today’s PTP Hit and Run.
Durrrr Challenge, version 2.0: Tom “durrrr” Dwan has officially kicked off his challenge against a second opponent, jungleman12, and he’s already up $130K. Head over to the tracking website to learn more. The original challenge against Patrik Antonius is still going on. The online poker community has higher hopes for this version than the original, which has been going on for a year and a half.
Why so Cereus?: The Cereus Poker Network has been sold by Tokwiro Enterprises to Blanca Gaming. Story here about the sale, which involves poker sites UB.com and Absolute Poker. It doesn’t appear that players at those sites will experience any major changes, at least from what we’ve seen so far.
Cancelled at UB: One of the tournaments for the UB Online Championship was canceled because of a “technical glitch.” Read more here. Players who were registered are being invited to a freeroll that can get them into the $1K buy-in $1M guaranteed main event.
Senate support: H.R. 2267 — United States legislation that would legalize and regulate online poker in the United States — got a bit of a boost this week, as Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has said he currently supports the legalization of online poker in the U.S. More here. Reid is the Senate majority leader, so that’s very good news for online poker players in the U.S. The bill is currently still in the House of Representatives.
Commerce vs. poker players: The story on Reid above (linked here again) also talks about the stand-off between poker players and L.A.’s Commerce Casino. The Commerce opposes the legislation, saying it would send money out of the United States. Well-known poker players, who often get paid by online poker sites, obviously take exception to this stance. The Poker Players Alliance sent an open letter to the Commerce, co-signed by many of poker’s biggest names (Hellmuth, Ivey, et al), telling Commerce it should think about changing its stance. The casino responded by saying why it opposes the bill, and didn’t back off its opposition. Poker players are apparently considering a boycott of the Commerce in response. Looks like it might get messy.
JRB in the house: Part two of an interview with Jean-Robert Bellande has been posted over cardplayer.com. You can watch below:
Poker+charity: Want to give to charity in September? Just play some poker. Poker Gives is putting on National Poker Month, in which live tournament across the U.S. will be donating portions of prize pools to charity. Read more here.
