Online poker regulation in the U.S. drums up support. And Scotty Nguyen, baby, on ESPN.com’s Inside Deal. It’s all in today’s PTP Hit and Run.
Mainstream support for online gambling:You can never have too many allies on a political issue. The Los Angeles Times recently published an op-ed about how regulation of online gambling in the United States would be a good thing. And the bill making its way through Congress, HR 2267, got rid of a big enemy as well, as the NFL backed off its opposition. Read more here.
Silly Kentucky: We hadn’t heard a peep out of the court case in Kentucky for a while, in which the commonwealth is trying to shut down/shake down online poker operators. But now Party Gaming has been added to the case, in what most are guessing is a ploy to get a settlement. Stay classy, Kentucky.
Scotty in Bristol, baby!: Scotty Nguyen dropped by ESPN to appear on Inside Deal, the weekly online poker show at ESPN.com. We were hoping he showed up blitzed, but that didn’t happen:
Doesn’t look good for the little guys: Bill Rini posted a lengthy entry about the state of online poker here, where he paints a not-so rosy future for poker rooms not named PokerStars and Full Tilt. He talks about why most rooms are having trouble increasing the market share, vis a vis the big boys. And to do so, they are going to have to do something different than what they are doing now.
Women playing with bows and arrows: OK, this has almost nothing to do with poker, other than it’s from the site of a European Poker Tour event in Estonia, and it was put up by a reporter at pokernews.com. We want to learn archery from the hot instructor, though:
The first to two EPTs?: Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee would like to be the first player to accomplish the feat. Interview with him from the scene of the current EPT event:
Fans of FTOPS: The FTOPS XVII tournament series at Full Tilt will conclude this weekend, but there’s still a lot of action to go. Check out what happened in Wednesday’s tournaments here.
JRB in the house: Everyone’s favorite poker-playing Survivor, Jean-Robert Bellande, answers questions in the All In Box at cardplayer.com. Does someone ask “Are you broke”? Watch to find out:
