Dwan getting owned in his own challenge, the return of the Unabomber, and Ziigmund dating Miss Finland. It’s all in today’s PTP Hit and Run.
The Week Ahead: What’s going on in the world of poker this week? As always, lots. Read our weekly lookahead at the pokerverse, which includes the World Championship of Online Poker and WPT and EPT events.
Dwan deep in the jungle: It’s still early, but Tom “durrrr” Dwan might be getting a little worried in his 50K hand challenge against jungleman12 at Full Tilt Poker. He’s down almost $700K after the most recent session. Read more here. You can watch a recent session below:
WSOP on ESPN: Part of the week ahead is day 2B coverage of the World Series of Poker main event. You can watch a preview of the two episodes that are at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN.
Unabomber is back: Phil Laak was in a pretty bad ATV accident earlier this month, but he’s apparently getting back on the road, according to a column at ESPN. He had a bunch of injuries and a couple of surgeries. And he still sounds like Laak…excerpt talking about his “ordeal”: “Antonio [Esfandiari, who was on the trip with Laak] was like, ‘Can I Twitter this stuff?’ and I was like, ‘Absolutely!’ He thought I was nuts but he went for it. If I could have, I’d have gotten video of them opening my eyeball and working on the fatty tissue. How often do you get to see inside your skull? I should have had the anesthesiologist use my camera to film the surgery. I fainted when I gave blood once, but if I have to be in that spot, I have to capture it. I’ll only be able to look at the pictures once, but I’d still want to have them.”
Ziigmund and Miss Finland, sitting in a tree: High-stakes cash game player Ilari “ziigmund” Sahamies is always living the life and hanging out with hot women. The latest? Miss Finland, apparently, according to a story here. Well done, ziigmund.
What is this “limit” hold’em?: Apparently there’s a type of poker where there are limits on bets. Who knew? First, Phil Ivey admits someone is better than him at something poker-related. He must just be blowing smoke up this guy’s ass so he can own him later, right? Some of the chat:
IHateJuice: u are the biggest winner in LHE history
IHateJuice: by far
IHateJuice: i think ur as specialized there
Phil Ivey: who is better right now?
IHateJuice: i cant tell on that sample. i play ur name
Phil Ivey: i think we both know u are better than me at this game
Phil Ivey: but i play anyway so u should be thankful
Phil Ivey: if u played me horse i would b thankful
Second, Maria Ho has some limit hold’em strategery strategy in video form below:
Why does Gus Hansen still have a computer?: He really needs to stick to WPT events. He lost more than a million in a session at Full Tilt, almost three million for the month, he’s on an eight-figure downswing. He’s gotta be getting close to busto, right? If not, we’re not sure he can handle more nights like last night.
Record crowd: The European Poker Tour event in Portugal set a record for most players in a poker tournament in that country. In all 384 players showed up, which easily beat the 2009 edition of the event. More on the tournament here. And an interview with PokerStars’ J.P. Kelly from the scene below:
Sara Underwood interview: We’re not sure an interview with Sara Underwood, that is text-based, is really worth reading. But who are we to judge? Pokernews.com caught up with the Playboy model/Victory Poker pro here.
Bigger than usual Sunday: In addition to the usual slate of Sunday major tournaments in online poker, there was the UB Online Championship main event. Charlie “CHAZ_MAN_C” Combes won the $1K buy-in for more than $130K, read more here. For a rundown of all the Sunday action, we have you covered here.
