PokerStars Seeks World Record Tournament Today

PokerStars likes being the biggest in nearly everything in online poker. And they’ll try to back that up again later today.
Today, at 14:45 ET (2:45 p.m.), PokerStars will once again try to break the record for most players in a poker tournament. A July tournament at PokerStars holds the current Guinness Book of World Records mark with 65,000 entrants.
The tournament features a buy-in of $1, with a guaranteed prize pool of $300,000. Thirty thousand spots will cash; first place will be $50,000, a pretty fantastic prize for a $1 buyin. You can even try to satellite into the tournament if you don’t have a dollar to spare, via smaller buyins or frequent player points. Players start with 2,000 chips, with blind levels increasing every five minutes.
To find the tournament, go to the lobby, select “Tourney” and then “All” or “Special.” You can also search for the tourney by using the filter and searching for the word “record.”
PokerStars was obviously banking on the timing of the tournament to bring huge numbers — with Christmas on Friday, much of the United States market will be at home today. With tens of thousands already registered, the 65,000-person mark should be easy to beat, barring catastrophe (i.e. a server crash).
