Leading online poker room PokerStars shook up their lobby a bit this week with the introduction of Daniel’s Room, a collection of high stakes cash game tables spotlighting lead pro Daniel Negreanu.
Players on PokerStars were greeted with the new tables yesterday (assuming they didn’t have the lobby filtered to exclude them). Rather than adding a new tab to an already crowded interface, Stars has decided (for now, at least) to let Daniel’s Room Tables co-mingle with the rest of the high-stakes cash game tables in the lobby.
All DR tables are NLHE and are exclusively 6-max tables. As of now, the following limits are available:
$20/$40 ($10 ante)
$50/$100 ($25 ante)
$100/$200 ($50 ante)
Stars has said they plan to roll out more limits and games in the future.
Daniel’s Room tables are marked with a small red icon to the left of the table name, as displayed below:

Tables have a minimum buy in of 100BBs and a maximum buy in of 250BBs.
PokerStars calls it “the ultimate test of poker skill”, but it’s a little unclear at this point how the tables will actually differ from other high-stakes tables. There are some vague assurances that quality play on these tables could lead to a spot on a future Stars television program, but one would imagine that Stars will have to do more than tell players that “any player that impresses Daniel may even get invited to take part in a future PokerStars TV show” to really generate interest.
The rail for these tables is open, so observers are free to watch and chat. Interested in watching? Create a Stars account through PTP and get a free gift - a copy of leading poker software Hold’em Manager.
The PokerStars pro has been more and more interested in sharpening his online cash skills as of late, and it may be the attention that Negreanu’s forays into high-stakes cash games generated on various poker forums that spurred Stars to create these tables.
Full Tilt Poker has had similarly branded tables for some time – Ivey’s tables were introduced quite a bit ago, and the room also has custom tables for Gus Hansen and the durrrr Challenge.
