Online poker news was dominated this week by PokerStars’ Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). SCOOP events brought a mix of results, ranging from the high-profile wins by the likes of Hevad Khan and Michael Mizrachi to an array of massive takedowns by names that even online poker insiders would have a hard to recognizing. With SCOOP drawing to a close, online poker tournament players will no doubt be looking forward to the upcoming FTOPS XII, along with WSOP satellites on PokerStars, which should launch shortly after SCOOP ends.

This week also saw an unusual amount of activity (read: any activity at all) in the durrrr challenge. Dwan and Antonius got in some seriously play during the week, with several thousand hands (and several hundreds of thousands of dollars) tossed across the virtual felt. When it was all said and done, Antonius had opened up a healthy lead on Dwan, but with some 40k hands remanining before the challenge completes, it’s obviously still anyone’s game…

Speaking of inactivity, Foxwoods saw a massive drop off in numbers for their WPT this year as players headed out to Vegas for prelims at the Bellagio or stayed home to SCOOP it up. Stars disappointed some other folks as well, most obviously the people at Sharkscope, OPR and other datamining sites by taking significant steps to reduce the ability of those sites to acquire SNG results from Stars.

PartyGaming made some of the biggest news of the week – first, with their announcement that they had reached a massive settlement with the US DOJ that allows the company to avoid prosecution, and then again later in the week when one of their former execs – Mitch Garber – was snatched up by Harrah’s to head up a new online-facing division of the land-based casino giant.
