Tough Day for Poker Players

Some of them got robbed at a VFW:

Yikes. At least when the Dallas Swat team busted in a poker game last night with guns drawn, they let everyone keep their watches (one asumes):

Great coverage and commentary on the Dallas Poker Raids from Pokerati

Say what you want about cashout delays and the like - online poker looks like a darn safe bet to me these days.

Re: Tough Day for Poker Players

Ugh. I've played live poker in licensed cradrooms off and on for 10+ years. I have never played in a private game or quasi club, raked or unraked, that anyone could lose more than $10 at (and not for about 15 years). Who needs it? And no, most of the time I've lived at least 6 hours away from a cardroom.

6 hours! My local casino is 20 minutes away on the bus but I've never been.

Re: Tough Day for Poker Players

I live in dallas and play around town....thankfully these were all places I dont play at. I think it is just ridiculus that the cops dont have better thinks to do. I did hear that they walked away with at least 40,000 is money they seized...I guess that is a good reason to raid the games.

There are so many uderground poker clubs in dallas that imho it will do very little to deter the games form keep running. There is alot of money to be made at these places and Ive heard some ridiculus amounts that some of the owners make. Ive been thinking about opening a place with a couple other guys but i guess im glad i didnt.

Why wont the goverment and the police just let us poker players be?? Seriously isnt there something better and more of a help to society they could be doing?

There are a ton more cardrooms now than there used to be. Ten years ago poker was booming and there were about a quarter (at most) the rooms there are now.
