The North American Poker Tour, sponsored and organized by PokerStars, has announced a new stop in Los Angeles this November.
The event will take place at L.A.’s Bicycle Casino, from November 12-17.
So far, only the featured event, a $5,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em tourney, has been announced. Other smaller, side events are going to be added, as well, according to PokerStars. Past NAPT stops have also featured “high-roller” events with larger buy-ins, but no announcement has been made on that front.
This is the fourth stop in the newly minted NAPT. The first event, in January, was the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, an event that existed previously as a part of the European Poker Tour, but was added to the NAPT. An event in February was held at the Venetian in Las Vegas. The most recent tour stop took place in April, at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.
The PCA had a top prize of $2.2 million, won by Harrison Gimbel. Vanessa Selbst won the Mohegan Sun event, taking home the top prize of $750,000.
Qualifying events will be held on PokerStars, with freeroll/frequent player point/cash tournaments scheduled to be held as satellites. The satellites will include the tournament buy-in and expenses for the winners.
Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu said this, according to PokerStars’ blog: “I’ve played at The Bike in the past and there is a strong local presence in LA. It’s always really important for a tournament’s success to have a strong core of local players as it gives even more incentive to travel to the events when you know there will be big money on the line. I’m looking forward to playing.”
The event will likely include a number of PokerStars’ pros, like Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso and 2009 main event winner Joe Cada.
The Bicycle Casino is one of the biggest tournament stops on the poker circuit. The L.A. Poker Classic is one of the most popular tournament series other than the World Series of Poker. The World Poker Tour will hold its “Legends of Poker” event at the Bike in August.
