New Jersey Sunday Majors

The August, 2015 Gaming Revenue Results were released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 14, 2015.

The summer season was buoyed by the extra September days before Labor Day. Those numbers should be reflected in a strong next month, not this month. In addition to the traditional Miss America Pageant that still draws attention to the City (Congratulations Miss Georgia), the Atlantic City Air Show opened September with 10’s of thousands of attendees.

Total Gaming Win from the Casino Hotels was $258.6 million in August 2015 compared to $305.0 million August 2014 (including Discontinued Operators – Atlantic Club, Showboat, Revel, and Trump Plaza) a huge 15.2% decrease. This is the last month that Showboat and Revel comparable numbers will impact. Labor Day weekend numbers (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) were included in the 2014 August revenue.

For the month, Casino Win was $246.4 million, and Internet Gaming Win was $12.2 million. Internet Gaming in August 2014 was $10.5 million (including Discontinued – Ultimate Gaming).

2015 August Poker was 16.2% of Total Internet Revenue versus 21.3% in 2014.

2015 August Casino was 83.8% of Total Internet Revenue versus 78.7% in 2014.

The NJDGE official report for August Online Poker revenues vs. July, $1.983 million to $1.885 million, UP by 5%. Casino Games were, $10.23 million versus $10.64 million, down by 3.8%. Total New Jersey Online Revenue was $12.2 million, DOWN by 2.5%.

The Borgata and Party Poker (including Pala Entertainment) combination continues to lead as the top revenue producing I-Gaming site(s) in New Jersey with a 30.1% share (Still first in poker, but dropped to second in casino games).

Caesar’s Interactive (CIE) moved up to third place overall with 22.6% (Second in poker, fourth in casino games).

The Tropicana, with only casino games, continued in second place overall for the month with a 22.8% revenue share, the same share it had in July but moved back up to #1 in casino games in August.

Golden Nugget/BetFair combination secured a revenue share of only 18.4%, dropping down to 4th place overall and third place in online casino games win, a substantial 3.3% decrease in revenue share from July.

RESORTS online casino games moved up again to a 6.1% of overall online revenue, a full 1.7% greater than July with its largest contribution to date. PokerStars and/or Full Tilt brand rumors are running rampant. There is still a possibility of an introduction prior to the end of Amaya’s 3rd quarter closing on September 30th. Online Poker players are hoping that reports and past information from Resorts and Amaya are true.

The Online Poker Numbers showed Party and Borgata’s edge over Caesar’s/888 for the month 52.1% to 47.9% inched up slightly over July.

The Month to Month comparison of Internet Gaming Figures: August 2015, $12.2 million versus August 2014’s $10.5 million, produced another better than expected INCREASE of 16.1%. Online Casino numbers continued to rise with August 2015 $10.2 million versus $8.3 million in August 2014, a 22.9% INCREASE.

Total Poker revenue for 2014 and 2015 month to month was $1.98 million versus $2.25 million, a DECREASE of 12%. It was the Fifth Month in a row that New Jersey couldn’t break $2 million in revenue, but Borgata and Party broke its 2 month streak of months under the $1 million barrier.

Atlantic City Brick and Mortar Poker revenues were down to $2.61 million in August, a decrease over July of $521K. No major tournament was running in the City’s rooms.

The Borgata had 54% of the Revenue Share; Caesars two poker rooms had a good month with 31.7%.

The Tropicana and its regulars contributed a consistent 10.9% and the Golden Nugget picked up the remaining 3.4%. The Taj Mahal continues to remain dark.

The transition continues as Atlantic City attempts to concentrate on non-gambling activities as a source of revenue. The “powers that be” have to do this to combat non-movement of the State Legislature to pass bills to help the floundering City. In addition the lack of anything happening with the Revel, Showboat and Taj Mahal properties bogged down in the courts is slowing the recovery. Well, at least the City has Miss America again?
