PokerStars pro Jason Mercier continued his recent tear, beating a talented field in the Spring Championship of Online Poker on Sunday for his third title in the tournament series this week.
Mercier’s latest victory came in the $2,100 NL Hold’em 4-Max. To get the title, Mercier had to beat a final table that included Calvin “cal42688” Anderson — a six-time SCOOP winner — and Ryan “HITTHEPANDA” Franklin.
He and Franklin agreed to a chop that left $8,000 to the winner and the title of champion of this event. In the end, Mercier needed a bit of luck to take down the championship, coming from behind with a pair of nines when he hit a set against Franklin’s pair of tens. Mercier won $178,000 for the victory, while Franklin won $153K. Anderson finished third for $68,000.
The tournament was a two-day event with a deep blind structure and nearly 400 entries.
It continues an amazing run for Mercier, who is better known for his prowess in live tournaments. First he won the $2,100 fixed-limit Badugi event for $39K. Then, on the next night, he took down the $2K no-limit Draw tourney for $34K.
This title brings his total to six in “COOP” events (including the World Championship of Online Poker and Turbo Championship of Online Poker, also staged by PokerStars).
