The main event of one of the most prestigious – and unique- online poker tournament series gets underway this weekend on PokerStars.
The Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) has been, by any account, a success for host room PokerStars. Now in it’s second year, SCOOP offers players a unique format meant to include competitors from all buy in levels: each SCOOP event offers three different buy ins, ranging from low to medium to high.
With thirty-odd events already in the books, the 2010 iteration of SCOOP is barreling straight toward the highly-anticipated Main Event, a two-day affair the gets started this Sunday.
If entries to this point are any indication, players will be turning out in droves on May 16th at 5:00 ET for the 2010 SCOOP Main Event to try their luck at the low ($109), medium ($1,050) or high ($10,300) buy in version of the tournament – if not all three.
Based on last year’s results, everyone will have more than ample motivation to log on and sign up. The winners of the 2009 SCOOP ME brought home hefty paychecks across the board: JannotLapin knocked off the low buy in version for $151,203, JC Alvarado pocketed $502,086 for his win in the medium buy in and Team PokerStars Pro Jude ‘j.thaddeus’ Ainsworth was just a few bucks shy of instant millionaire status after banking $963,338 for his win in the high buy in version.
Below is a video with highlights of the final table of the high buy in version of the 2009 SCOOP Main Event:
.
That win catapulted ‘j.thaddeus’ to the top of the all-time SCOOP leader board. How long is that leader board? According to Stars, 167,965 unique players have bought in to SCOOP events, with $80,273,565.00 in total prize money paid out to date. That money has been spread across entrants from 138 countries, with the US, Canada, Germany, the UK and the Netherlands making the top five for total value of cashes.
Satellites for the SCOOP Main Event are now running around the clock.
