After numerous delays and rumors of restarts, the live version of the durrrr Challenge is finally underway.
The Tom “durrrr” Dwan Million Dollar Challenge, as it’s officially known, is currently taking place at the Les Ambassadeurs Club in London. The format remains the same as when the series was initially announced: heads up matches where opponents must put 500k on the table and play Dwan at either PLO or NLHE with blinds of $500/$1000. Opponents can’t exit the match until at least 500 hands have been played or they go busto.
While the original version slated to run alongside the WSOP Europe had a bit of trouble acquiring committed opponents, that hasn’t been an issue for the present challenge. Original opponent Sammy George is still on board and has been joined by Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies and Marcelo “luckexpress” Marigliano. Of the three, only Sahamies has chosen PLO.
The first match is now in the books, with Marigliano taking a small win from Dwan after over 12 hours of play. Dwan will be back in action versus George this week. The entire match will be broadcast on SKY Sports in the UK at a date next year to be announced.
It now appears that Dwan’s impending signing to Full Tilt Poker might have been the primary cause for delay in the matches, as play got underway almost immediately after Dwan’s deal with Full Tilt Poker was finalized.
Meanwhile, Dwan continues to slug it out with Antonius in the online durrrr challenge, although play in that match has been put on hold while both players tangle with new online mystery man Isildur1.
