James Akenhead: WSOP Run Ends in 9th Place
The shortest of the November Nine stacks, James Akenhead, saw his surprising run to the Main Event of the World Series of Poker end.
Akenhead came into the final table with 6,800,000 in chips and was unable to generate much momentum during the early stages. He survived one all in with a mircale river to triple up but then just got stuck in reverse as play moved into Level 35.
Akenhead’s bust hand:
Akenhead moved all in for about 4.4m with pocket threes. The table folded to Kevin Schaffel, who made the call with pocket nines.
Flop:
Not much of a sweat – three or running clubs. Turn:
River:
No miracle this time and Akenhead finishes in ninth place.
Akenhead was one of two non-US players at the final table, along with Antoine Saout. Akenhead and Saout share another commonality: they both made the final table of this year’s Main Event at the World Series of Poker Europe.
For his troubles, Akenhead will head home $1,263,602 richer.
