Once a passing curiosity in the world of high stakes at Full Tilt Poker, “Isildur1″ might be here to stay.
For the first two weeks of November, the Swedish player known as Isildur1 who recently appeared at FTP’s tables is up more than $6 million. His amazing month has put him at more than $5 million profit for the year, only behind Patrik Antonius, who is just short of $6M for 2009.
During the past week, Isildur1 was primarily playing against Tom “durrrr” Dwan, playing tens of thousands of hands against each other on multiple tables. “Isildur1″ has come out on top against Dwan, taking about $3 million while playing against the new FTP pro. (Dwan is down more than $5M for the month)
But Isildur1 didn’t limit his action to just Dwan. He’s been playing just about anyone who plays the highest limits at FTP in recent days. He’s also played against Phil Ivey, Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond, Brian Townsend, Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, David Benyamine and Patrik Antonius. The games with Antonius created the biggest buzz, as there were some huge swings, and Antonius dropped a million in one session.
Meanwhile, the poker forums have been ablaze talking about isildur1, who he is, and how he’s winning. Some in the online poker community suggest he’s a bot or a superuser, even though it seems unlikely Full Tilt would allow either of those things to occur at its highest stakes tables against their top players (not to mention he’s been seen chatting a lot). Some of the mystery around the Swede was solved in a post by Barry Greenstein over at Pokerroad, when he made this post on the forums:
It’s amazing that all the guesses on 2+2 are wrong. I won’t unmask him since that’s his decision. (I don’t know him personally, but I know a good Swedish player who has played with him a lot.) He’s not a publically known player at this time, but he has done very well in big head-up games on European sites. He just started playing on American sites.
I have a feeling you will start hearing about in live games and tournaments once he gets a little older, since he likes to play poker all the time.
Barry
We’ll let you know who he is, if we ever find out.
