Isildur1 Backs out of Party Poker Big Game IV

The most mysterious man in poker — Swedish Full Tilt high-stakes pro Isildur1 — is no longer playing in Party Poker’s Big Game IV.

For weeks, Party Poker and media outlets have been touting the 48-hour cash game as the place where the player would finally reveal his identity to the world. While he is widely thought to be Viktor Blom, his appearance at the Big Game would have been actual hard evidence that he and Isildur1 were one in the same.

Tony G, a Party Poker sponsored pro, had broke the news last month that Isildur1 would be attending the Big Game, his first appearance as “Isildur1″ away from the virtual felt. Tony had been offering to back Isildur1 for some time, and it appeared the Swede had finally agreed heading into the Big Game.

The Big Game is scheduled to start on Sunday, in London. Tony G, Luke “Full_Flush” Schwartz, Phil Laak and Isaac Haxton are among some of the bigger names scheduled to play.

Here’s what Tony G had to say on his blog at PartyPoker.com:

I got an SMS from Isildur1: “Sry for not coming, take care bud.” I am afraid I am going to have to break the news that Isildur1 will not be coming to the PartyPoker.com Big Game IV at Les Ambassadeurs in London this weekend. Eddie Hearn, the event organiser and Managing Director of Matchroom Sport, personally spoke to Isildur1 and his manager and confirmed this to be the case. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I have spent so much time talking to him and reassuring him recently but he’s just not going to come. We agreed a 50/50 staking deal, it all started out with personal contact and then in recent hours managers/agents got involved as you would expect.

Obviously, Tony G was less-than pleased with the revelation, since he’s the one who has been personally talking to Isildur1 and trumpeting his arrival. From the tone of the blog, it seems that he may not be interested in staking him in the future.

Tony G also said that Isildur1 thought the stakes for the Big Game were “too low” for him. Isildur1 routinely plays in anything from $200-$400 to $500-$1,000 at Full Tilt Poker.

The loss of Isildur1 takes a lot of the luster away from the Big Game, which has some big names, but is now not nearly as relevant as it might have been had Isildur1 sat at the table.

For now, the only place you can see Isildur 1 is at Full Tilt’s tables. Sign up for Full Tilt Poker and get rakeback today.
