The story feels pretty familiar at this point to most online poker fans: A new face shows up at the high stakes cash tables, challenges the best the pokernet has to offer for ridiculous sums of money, starts off hot and slices a few million off their bankrolls before inevitably crashing back to the ground under the weight of expectation.
Isildur1 nailed the first part of the narrative, appearing from the proverbial ‘out of nowhere’ and absolutely crushing some of the top names in online poker. Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan was his primary victim, contributing roughly $4 million to the as-yet-unnamed Swede’s bankroll. Patrik Antonius stepped up to the plate and promptly handed over somewhere in the six figure neighborhood as well. All told, Isildur booked well over $5 million in wins within the space of just a few days, much to the delight of online railbirds who watched as the top names online battled to make any dent in his momentum.
Those dents, however, are now coming fast, furious and in chunks sizable enough to threaten Isildur1 with a quick exit to wherever it is shot-takers go after failing in spectacular fashion. While he’s still up several million for his efforts, Isildur1 has seen his profits sliced by over half in the space of just a few thousand hands.
The primary beneficiary of Isildur1’s succumbing to high-stakes gravity: Patrik Antonius, who has taken some $3 million plus from Isildur1 in the last 24 hours, including a single pot worth just under $900k that is now the largest cash pot played in online poker history. The $879k pot, resulting from a 500/1000 PLO hand, went Antonius’ way, as did most other things in the match.
The hand, for those interested: Isildur1 raised the button to 3k. Patrik flatted and the two players saw a flop:

Antonius checked, Isildur1 bet and Antonius check-raised pot. Isildur1 called, putting about 50k in the middle. The turn is where all hell broke loose:

Antonius pots, Isildur1 repots and Antonius shoved (each started the hand with about 450k). Both showed top two pair with draws; Antonius had a stronger draw and hit a straight on the river to win.
Also stepping up to test Isildur1’s staying power: Brian Townsend, who recently ended a self-imposed PLO banishment and sat down at multiple tables with Isildur1 at 300/600 PLO. The two played several big pots but the match ended at what appears to essentially be a draw, at least by the standard’s of Isildur1’s swings.
