PTP: What’s your site of choice at the moment and why?
AV: Lately I have been mixing in Full tilt and absolute. Absolutes software is some of the worst around but their games are better then stars.
PTP: Do you see yourself branching out into other games, and if so, what seems like the next logical step?
AV: Yes and No. The next logical step is moving in MTTs. I think there is more profit to be made playing them, but a lot more variance. I would consider moving into them when I get more money invested. Like I said earlier I would rather move to cash games, but it would be much easier to move into MTTs.
PTP: Turbo vs Standard SNGs / MTT – what do you prefer and why? What adjustments do you make?
AV: I play close to no standard SNGs. I mix in Super turbos and Turbos. STs are amazing for rakeback, but they aren’t very profitable before rakeback. Because of that I have been playing them a lot less then I use to. Regular speeds take longer but usually sustain a higher ROI in them than turbos, so the profitability is pretty similar…however, regular speeds don’t fill up enough for me to really bother with.
PTP: For someone starting out with a bankroll of say $500 and 20 hours a week to play, what path would you suggest to them?
AV: Immediately after depositing your $500 into your account, start with playing three or four $100 tourneys. Seriously though, sounds like the way I started. My biggest suggestion is study more than you play. If you have 20 hours to donate to poker a week, I would study 10 hours and play 10 hours. Everyone has heard this, but practice good bankroll management. Move up levels when you have 100 buiy-ins at that level and move down when your roll has dropped to 100 buy-ins of the lower level.
PTP: Biggest leak you’ve corrected in the last couple of months? How did you go about correcting it?
AV: I would say adjusting to all the different types of players. Taking good notes is a huge part of adjusting.
PTP: Thanks for your time, Andrew.
AV: No problem.
