An update on Everleaf in the United States and a roundup of online poker regulation news in the U.S., WPT Venice’s final table and a movie about an underground poker game. It’s all in today’s edition of the PTP Hit and Run.
Everleaf update: The Everleaf online poker network has officially pulled out of the U.S. market. You can get more details here; the move apparently comes in response to an investigation by U.S. authorities.
Regulation news: In the U.S., there are a couple of reports floating around that online gaming regulation could be linked to an upcoming payroll tax bill. So far, no big-time media outlets have reported this, so it’s more in the land of rumor than anything else right now.
The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs held a hearing looking into online poker and gaming, a follow-up to one held in November of last year. The hearing mostly addressed tribal concerns, which will likely be important if the bill is to gain passage in front of the full Congress. More here.
And in related news, the Golden Nugget is launching a free online poker site, another sign that Nevada gaming interests are optimistic about the future of online poker in the U.S.
And PokerStars is starting PokerStars.eu. More on that announcement here.
Poker movie: Below you can check out a trailer for a movie about a fictional high stakes poker game, called The King’s Men. Apparently, people might bet with body parts. Ouch.
WPT update: Just three players are left at the World Poker Tour event in Venice. You can track the end game live at WPT’s website here.
At the WPT, Tony G gets pissed off at his personal assistant. Not sure why he didn’t just take his bike.
Nanonoko’s new adventure?: PokerStars pro Randy “nanonoko” Lew is trying to get on a reality TV show called Cross Assault, in which players compete against one another in the video game Street Fighter X Tekken. Check out his audition below:
