Maria Ho can’t get anything going at the prestigious WSOP Europe Main Event final table. More and more pros are siding against Leon Tsoukernik in his recent lawsuit. And 888Poker adds another pro to their roster. That and more in today’s Hit-n-Run.
De Torres Wins WSOP Europe Main Event; Maria Ho Takes 6th
Poker pro Maria Ho appeared to be on a historic run in this year’s WSOP Europe Main Event. She was chipleader after Day 4 and then after Day 5 coming in to the 8-handed final table. But after a series of hands where she always seem to have the worst of it, Maria finally got it all in a huge hand against Niall Farrell and Marti Roca De Torres. Her Ace-Jack was in dire straights against Farrell’s pocket kings and Torres’s pocket aces. The aces held up and Ho and Farrell were eliminated in 6th and 5th respectively.
Torres would ride that chiplead all the way to victory, although not without some bumps along the way. He would fall to fourth in chips at one point, but eventually found his way to heads up against Gianluca Sperenca. Torres would win a massive flip when his pocket fives held against AJ to see him walk away with all the chips, the money, and the bracelet.
Torres is a tournament pro, but this was the largest victory of his career so far. He seemed to feel proud and good afterwards in his interview.
Leon Blames It on the Booze
News broke earlier this month that King’s Casino owner Leon Tsoukernik was filing a countersuit against high stakes gambler Matt Kirk, who had sued Leon earlier to the tune of $2 million. The money was an amount that Kirk loaned Tsoukernik during a poker game at the Aria. Well, Tsoukernik has countered with a civil suit of his own saying Matt Kirk shouldn’t get paid any of the money because at the time Leon was drunk and sleepy. Tsoukernik’s countersuit then seems to make some other pretty outrageous claims such as that the casino wouldn’t let him leave and that Matt shouldn’t be allowed to win because he was backed. Leon also alleges that the Aria staff were in on a plot to get him drunk so that he would lose to Kirk.
Obviously, this hasn’t gone over well with the poker community. Doyle Brunson had this to say on Twitter:
Negreanu added some thoughts of his own.
Later Phil Galfond and Haralabos Voulgaris jumped in to comment on the absurdity of the situation. Who knows how this particular lawsuit will pan out, but Tsoukernik appears to already have been found guilty in the court of public opinion.
