Hit and Run: Full Tilt and partypoker Online Series; The Making of Holdem X; PornHub Launches Strip Poker

Steve Ruddock : February 4th, 2016

California online poker bills miss deadline.  partypoker to return to 21 national online poker markets. Scheinbergs NOT involved in rumored PokerStars takeover bid. And more.

Holdem X on everyone’s mind

Several days after its launch, Holdem X is still front and center on people’s minds, as the newly deployed poker/eSport mashup has gained a lot more interest, and good reviews, than just about anyone imagined.

The latest to offer up their thoughts on Holdem X is Poker Update’s Jennifer Newell, who asks the age old question: Is Holdem X the next big thing? Newell tackles the basics of the game, and also a new angle, as she looks at how Twitch streamers have already jumped on the Holdem X bandwagon.

And if you’re more interested in how Holdem X sprang to life, Alex Dreyfus has posted a blog detailing the game’s journey from concept, through development and testing, to realization. It’s an interesting read that sheds some light on the creativity involved, and incredible number of tweaks and changes that go into building something like this from scratch.

Quick Hitters

- California’s online poker bills are officially dead, but as I explain in this column, they’re not quite buried, and could make a return appearance at some point in 2016.

- According to Eilers & Krejcik Gaming, the proposed all-cash offer for Amaya/PokerStars made by current Amaya CEO David Baazov doesn’t involve the previous owners of PokerStars, Mark and Isai Scheinberg, in any way.

- PornHub is getting into the online poker game, with the launch of a strip poker game.

- Full Tilt Poker’s FTOPS XXIX series received a major overhaul, while partypoker announced a $5 million guaranteed online poker series dubbed Powerfest.

- Speaking of partypoker, it appears new owners GVC are less risk averse than the old ownership group, as the company announced they will be returning to 21 different markets.

- Atlantic City appears to be running out of time, as the Borgata is taking them to court over an outstanding tax refund the city has been doing everything it can to not pay the casino.
