Adelson says DFS and Poker are gambling. Technical issues hinder DFS on opening weekend of NFL season. Mercier and Somerville close in on Twitch record. And more.

DFS off to auspicious start in 2017

DFS Is off to an interesting start in 2017.

Despite huge numbers, DraftKings had overlays all over the place, not only because of the lofty contests they’re running, but partly because the site had some major mobile app issues just prior to kickoff, when people are usually busy buying up entries.

One other thing to watch; it looks like poker websites are going to be pushing DFS really hard this year, which shouldn’t be too surprising considering the crossover between poker players and DFS players.

Quick Hitters

– The Jason Mercier/Jason Somerville Twitch stream of the $102k Super-High-Roller event is going smashingly… Well, not so smashingly for Mercier, who is already on his second bullet after losing KK to AA all-in preflop, but the Twitch stream is lighting the poker world on fire.

– A really cool story unfolded during the opening days of the PokerStars WCOOP, as Shaun Deeb’s wife went into labor while the online legend was busy playing a WCOOP event out of the country. Deeb’s second child arrived while he was in the middle of winning his record-setting fourth WCOOP title.

– Lost in the shuffle of Rutgers Responsible Online Gaming Report was a single line about a New Jersey online gambler who wagered over $78 million in 2015 – and to be clear, it’s not entirely clear this was a poker player, where you might expect a massive amount of wagers.

– Sheldon Adelson had some harsh words for daily fantasy sports and for poker, as the casino billionaire tries to make the case that despite his gambling interests he’d be a suitable minority owner should he lure the Raiders to Las Vegas.
