High Stakes Report: September 2009

RELATED ARTICLES
While one Full Tilt Poker pro rebounded from a miserable August, another’s misery continued.
Patrik Antonius led the high-stakes cash games at FTP in September, profiting more than $1.2 million for the month. Antonius had lost just about the same amount during his play in the previous month. He posted profits in every game type he played in September (pot-limit Omaha, HORSE, and no-limit hold’em).
Meanwhile, Gus Hansen’s downswing continued, as he was the biggest loser at FTP for September. He was down nearly $1.2 million in September after giving back $2 million in August, which adds up to two pretty awful months. Nearly $1M of his losses for the month came in Omaha.
The two pros are similarly situated, albeit opposed, in the high-stakes standings for 2009. Antonius has the most profit of all players, ahead more than $4.6M for the year, more than $1.5M ahead of the second-ranked player (theASHMAN103). Hansen is second from the bottom in terms of profit, down $3.3M for the year.
POKERBLUFFS (David Eldar) continued his hot streak with another solid month, coming in second behind Antonius (+$1.1M). After a solid August, as well, Eldar is on the verge of cracking the top five players for the year (+$2.2M).
OMGClayAiken (Phil Galfond) was the only other player who turned a profit of more than a million for the month (just under $1.1M). Galfond is the lead instructor at popular training site BlueFire Poker. Read a review of BlueFire here.
No one else posted a month of a million dollar loss other than Hansen. David Oppenheim was second in the loss column (-$700K), although he did that in just over 2,000 hands, while Hansen played more than 19,000 hands.
