It’s possible that November will forever change the high-stakes world at Full Tilt Poker. Or it could simply be a wacky month that won’t be repeated any time soon.
If Isildur1 is still around, chances are the former is more likely than the latter. The still unknown Swedish player drove high-stakes action to new heights last month. He had an epic multi-table battle with Tom “durrrr” Dwan. At one point, he was up nearly $6 million for the month. He played in the largest pot in the history of online poker (a pot he lost to Patrik Antonius to the tune of $1.3M+). He went through huge swings, up and down.
At the end of the roller-coaster ride, he was up about $2.3 million for the month. And that was only the fourth-best mark on Full Tilt. He also pushed the sometimes dormant no-limit hold’em games in the nosebleed tables, posting profits of $2.7M in that game.
Even though he didn’t come out on top of the high-stakes action last month, it was still the month of Isildur1. Who did come out of November with a fatter bankroll than the unknown Swede? Several of his opponents in the high-stakes world profited from Isildur1’s action. Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies topped the best players in the world, banking more than $3.5 million, in just over 13,000 hands.
Right behind him was Phil Ivey, who was able to play more than 10K hands, despite his appearance at the final table of the World Series of Poker main event. He had a profit margin of about $3.2 million, even though he lost a pot of more than a million to Isildur1. Brian Townsend rode the Isildur train to profitability as well, posting a gain of $2.8M over 15K hands.
On the wrong end of things was Dwan, who became a Full Tilt pro and promptly starting giving his bankroll to Isildur1. Dwan posted a loss of $6.4 million, over 51K hands, which is likely the worst month on record at FTP’s tables. Gus Hansen’s abysmal 2009 continued, posting losses of $3.1M. The only other player with losses of more than a million was Cole South (-$1.3M). Dwan passed Hansen for the most losses on the year — Dwan is down $6.8M, while Hansen is down $5.7M.
The totals for the year saw a shakeup, as well. At one point a few weeks ago, Antonius was sniffing $10M in total profit for 2009. Now he’s back to just under $6 million ($5.8). Ziigmund is tops for 2009 at $6.6M. Ivey is second at $6.3M, while Townsend leaped to fourth ($4.3m).
