Full Tilt, PokerStars Run Charity Efforts for Haiti

The online poker community is doing its part to help in the wake of an earthquake that devastated Haiti earlier in the week.

Both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker are putting together ways for people to donate money to the relief efforts in the Caribbean country, much as they have done in the aftermath of past natural disasters. The death toll in Haiti is the hundreds of thousands, and an estimated three million could use some type of emergency aid.

At PokerStars, players can make donations by registering in “dummy” tournaments, where you can send anywhere from $1,000 to $1 to help the cause. The buy-ins are not for actual tournaments, and will go directly to the Red Cross for its efforts in Haiti. PokerStars also made a new account — Haiti Fund — to which players can make transfers. The money sent to this account will also be sent to the Red Cross. Donations will be matched by PokerStars.

Full Tilt is making a similar effort. FTP has created an “Aid for Haiti” account where donations, as small as $5, can be made. They have also set up “no-play” tournaments, like PokerStars, where you register for a “dummy” tournament in which all proceeds go to relief efforts. Donations will be matched by Full Tilt.

Full Tilt is also offering “Aid for Haiti” Tournaments that will run Thursday through Sunday. The rake for these tournaments will be donated to relief efforts and matched by FTP. Look for them in the Full Tilt lobby.
