The World Poker Tour and Fox Sports Net announced an agreement to air seasons 9, 10 and 11 of the live tournament series, including some changes to when and how the WPT will be broadcast.
According to a press release on the agreement, WPT episodes over the next three seasons will be aired during primetime on Sunday nights on FSN. The episodes will appear between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. There will still be multiple airings of all episodes throughout the week as well.
Tournaments for season 9 are being played now, with the premiere slated for January of 2011.
The WPT’s ratings have suffered in the past because of inconsistent air times and marketing. The announcement between FSN and the WPT addressed both of those concerns. The regular Sunday airings will attempt to create less confusion for viewers about when episodes will air. And FSN and the WPT also said there will be on-air commercials and marketing that will promote the WPT better than in the past.
The show has already made several changes while filming is taking place, including Kimberly Lansing being added as an on-air personality, and the four “Royal Flush Girls” as on-set “ambassadors.” The WPT has also been holding auditions for a new recurring segment called “The Raw Deal” which will consist of an analyst other than co-hosts Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten breaking down some of the action at the final table of the tournaments.
According to WPT CEO Steve Heller: “This season promises to be unlike any previous incarnations of the WPT. The shows will be faster-paced and edgier, featuring the biggest names in poker mixing it up with more up-and-coming stars, pre-final table action and, as always, poker’s greatest and most recognizable play-by-play commentary team of Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten.”
FSN has been home to the WPT on television since season 7. The first five seasons aired on the Travel Channel, while season 6 was on GSN, the Game Show Network.

WPT is one of the most respected brands in poker and will only grow stronger with the tremendous innovations they are bringing to the show in the new season.
