A story of a raked home poker game getting shut down is told by a 2+2er. And an EPT Malta player says he had cash stolen from his room. It’s all in the week’s most interesting threads in the world of poker forums.
Thread: Sign this RAWA opposition petition – need 98k more signs by May 2
The Poker Players Alliance has put forth a petition to oppose the Restoration of America’s Wire Act — that pesky bill that would ban online poker in the United States, including in places that have already regulated and legalized it. So far, the outpouring of support from the poker community has been underwhelming, with just under 3,000 of the targeted 100,000 signatures acquired so far. There was also a dust-up with PokerStars pro Jason Somerville, who said on Twitter that he wasn’t sure how much good the petition would do, and then told viewers on Twitch that the petition was likely a waste of time. Of course, the time expended to sign the petition is about a minute, so it’s really not wasting that much time. Whether or not the petition will be effective — or if it can reach its goal — is certainly up for debate.
You can also just head straight to the petition here.
Thread: My home game raided by police, 1 arrest, police took all money
You have to take the original report with a bit of skepticism (the story is secondhand), of course, but there’s not really much reason to believe the original poster is lying, either. According to the thread, a home game was busted (rake was being taken), with the police chief joining the raid, and all money was confiscated from everyone in attendance. The consensus seems to be that the game was illegal and the police action was legal — even if you love poker and despise the police. If you’re playing in a home game, know the law, and don’t be surprised with the consequences if your game runs afoul of the law.
Thread: I had money stolen from my room at EPT/Hilton Malta
How many times do poker players have to get their crap taken from their hotel rooms before they stop leaving cash and unsecured laptops sitting around? / rant.
