Durrrrr Wins $750K in Live Million Dollar Challenge

The live “durrrr Challenge” got off to a pretty slow start. But Tom Dwan made a lot of money on the final day of the challenge.

Dwan took on Sammy “Any Two” George, and he took $750,000 from his opponent in the match held in London, playing no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha.

Both players started with $250,000 in front of them. According to reports, George started out the match getting the best of Dwan, and had an early lead. But Dwan took control of the match when he tabled AA to George’s AK preflop. Dwan’s aces held, and he took George’s first buy-in from him.

That would be the first of three buy-ins that Dwan would take from George in the session.

The turning point of the match appeared to be this hand: Dwan took a pot down with 7-2 off-suit on a bluff. On a board of Ah-Jh-6h-3c-3d, Dwan overshoved his stack in to a pot of $130K, pushing George off his Ad-6c, for two pair. The two players had a prop bet, that if either won a hand with 7-2 and showed it, they’d get paid $10K. Dwan flipped over his bluff and got the extra $10K on top of the pot.

“He rarely has a full house and it’s likely he just has aces or something like that, so I really like my shove on the river and fortunately Sammy didn’t make the hero call,” Dwan said in an interview with pokerlistings.com “It would have been an absurd call and luckily for me he didn’t make it. I was pretty worried for a while that he was going to make it but thankfully it worked out.”

Dwan busted George before the allotted 500 hands of the challenge were completed.

After three matches over three days, Dwan came out a winner of about $800K. He lost a small amount to Marcello “luckexpress” Marigliano and beat Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies for $68,000.
